My Approach to Therapy
I view the relationship between therapist and client to be central to the therapeutic process. I aim to walk alongside you on your healing journey, to honor the expertise that you bring about your life and what works for you, and to collaborate with you on your treatment plan utilizing shared decision making. My approach tends to be one of fostering understanding and self-compassion, while also helping you evaluate and change the things that are not working for you in your life.
I like to begin the therapy process with a discussion about what brings you into therapy and what changes you would like to see in your life. This will be followed by an in-depth assessment of your background and history, as well as an evaluation of current symptoms. Using the results of this assessment, we will work together to review your treatment goals in more depth and how I may be able to help you. If it is determined through this process that I am not the best fit for you, I will be happy to provide you with referrals to another provider who may be a better fit.
Once we have decided to work together, we will decide upon a treatment modality that is most likely to address your needs. We will discuss the treatment modalities in which I am trained and competent, and discuss how each of these may or may not help you meet your treatment goals. I will encourage the selection of an evidence-based treatment, as these have been shown through research to be effective in helping clients reach their treatment goals. At the same time, my approach to therapy is not so rigid that we cannot pause protocols to address life circumstances that may arise. I utilize symptom questionnaires and regular treatment plan updates to ensure we are making progress toward your treatment goals. Depending on the treatment modality selected, you may be expected to engage in practice assignments outside of therapy. My goal is to facilitate reduction in PTSD symptoms that will allow you to feel confident and comfortable living your life without therapy.
I am comfortable and accepting of people from all backgrounds and walks of life. I recognize that cultural, diversity, and identity factors may play an important role in your treatment and I will seek to understand you as an individual.
It is important to know that because I work a full-time job outside of this private practice, I am not available for emergencies or emergent sessions/contact. I only see clients on Fridays.
